Hockey is one of the most demanding sports on the body — quick transitions, explosive skating, high-impact contact, and constant changes in direction mean every muscle and joint is working hard. That level of intensity is exactly what makes the sport great… but it also means even small imbalances can add up fast.

Athletes can stay ahead of those setbacks by focusing on one thing: resilience — the ability to perform at a high level, recover efficiently, and help prevent injuries before they happen. Our goal at The Training Room is to make sure all your hard work pays off — by keeping you healthy, performing at your best, and ready for every opportunity.

Common Injuries in Hockey

Most players think of hockey injuries as big hits or collisions, but the truth is, many of the issues that derail a season start small. Some of the most common injuries we see include:

  • Elbow and shoulder strain: from repetitive shooting and stick handling.

  • Hip and groin pulls: from the explosive demands of skating.

  • Concussions: from big hits or hitting the ice.

These injuries don’t just cause pain — they limit strength, power, and confidence on the ice. Over time, that can lead to compensations and even greater risk of injury elsewhere.

Finding Weaknesses & Building Strength and Resilience

That’s why at The Training Room, we use performance testing and movement screens to identify where each athlete needs to improve or build strength. We use preseason VALD testing, an advanced tool that shows us strength and imbalances, to show us where athletes need to build resilience to injury or could build strength for increased performance. It also gives us a baseline to analyze an athlete's condition throughout the season can be used for return to sport after injury. From there, we build a customized plan that targets weak links and helps every player move better, faster, and more efficiently.

Resilient hockey players aren’t just strong — they’re balanced, mobile, and stable. The foundation of injury resistance comes from:

  • Agility: the ability to move fluidly and explosively in every direction.

  • Balance: controlling your body through contact, turns, and fatigue.

  • Joint Stability: especially in the hips, ankles, and shoulders — key areas for skating power and injury prevention.

Treatment & Techniques That Work

Injury resilience isn’t just about training — it’s also about taking care of the body. Our integrated approach includes:

  • Manual therapy to release tension and restore mobility.

  • Chiropractic adjustments to improve joint function.

  • Cupping & Dry Needling to promote healing and reduce soreness.

  • Mobility and stability drills to reinforce proper movement patterns.

  • Recovery equipment like Hyperice and Normatec to enhance circulation and speed up recovery.

The combination of treatment, movement, and recovery creates athletes who are not only pain-free but consistently performing at their best.

Play Stronger All Season

Staying healthy isn’t luck — it’s strategy. Whether your goal is to stay on the ice all season or reach the next level, the right performance care makes all the difference.
